This annual CES show starred Mercedes-Benz’s highly futuristic F 015 Luxury. It’s a complete new concept car that sets apart itself on the looks, space, the interior and much more. F 015 Luxury in motion sends out the message to the world that Mercedes-Benz is in tempo with the change in this technology oriented world and even ahead with its futuristic concepts.
Chairman of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Dr. Dieter Zetsche says “The single most important luxury goods of the 21st century are private space and time. Autonomously driving cars by Mercedes-Benz shall offer exactly that. With the F 015 Luxury in Motion, this revolutionary concept of mobility becomes tangible for the first time.”
This visionary electric car has a total peak output of 272 horsepower with a zero emission at all times. It is powered by a hydrogen-electric plug-in hybrid system. The car can drive up to a speed of 124 miles but with a hydrogen full tank the capability increases to 684 miles per hour.
It has an “autonomous technology” which is not only dependent sensors but on “Car-2-Car” and “Car-2-Object communications technology”. This modern machine is constantly exchanging information between the vehicle, passengers and the outside world. The interaction with the passenger is possible through size display screens located around the cabin. The interaction can be done through eye-tracking, gestures or by high resolution screens’ touch.
It is 79.5 inches wide, 205.5 inches long, and 60.0 inches tall, which gives more space than any other luxury car out there. The Mercedes F015 has 26-inch wheels. The doors open 90 degrees as a B-pillarless aperture. With endless stereo camera and radio sensors the car is able to monitor the surroundings, easily and capable of driving without any human input.
The F015 isn’t intended for production but Dr. Dieter Zetsche says that Mercedes has a “Master Plan” that will see the autonomous cars move from the concept to production phase but the car really demonstrates what Mercedes-Benz is capable of.
