Optimizing computer for better performance

How to optimize computer’s performance
Over the time your computer performance will deteriorate. This happens with all of them and so will with yours, too. There are lot of things you can do to improve it. We will tell you how to improve performance without installation of any third party software or hardware. Let us inform you that, yes the installation of additional hardware will improve the performance, too.
Here is how to improve it:

Defragment the hard disk

Over the time with files being added, deleted or changed. The changes made to files are saved in a location other than that of where original file has been. The whole process fragments the file and the hard disk and thereby resulting in a sluggish performance of the computer.
Disk defragmentation is a tool that reorganizes data of the hard disk and files in an efficient way so that your computer can quickly execute command such as opening of files etc.
In plain simple words when we make modification or delete a file there is space mismanagement which increase the execution time for a command related to the file such as opening, searching, etc. The disk defragmentation efficiently analyzes those blank spaces and filled spaces and arranges them in an efficient manner to optimize the mentioned command.

Remove unused program

It is always good practice to remove any programs that you seldom use or may never use. The computer that comes with the drivers installed in it may often have programs that you may never need and the driver cd comes with such programs, too. E.g. most common one is trial version of antivirus.
It is wise to know what program enables what functions and then choose based on that information.

Startup programs

Some programs that you install on your computer have been programmed to run at the background which is not visible as you don’t see them running. This is done to enhance your experience by opening the program ASAP when their icons are clicked.
It comes handy if you, more than often, use any specific program for those you don’t it is a wastage of your computer’s resources.
You can see the list of those programs under the notification area which is located at the bottom right hand side of the screen. There could be others that you might not be able to see. Microsoft provides a handy tool called “Autoruns for window” build for windows. It is a free software that will show you the list of those programs

Run programs that is needed, only.

Running program consumes resources. The more program you run the more resource it consumes and the slower the computer gets. Always try to find a better alternative to consume lesser resources. Example if you have to open 4 or 5 different programs to chat find unified solution that integrates all of those. If you have to open multiple windows to check your emails you can try email clients such as MS Outlook, Thunderbird, etc. Avoid running more than one antivirus.
You should develop alternatives and habit to run lesser programs at a time.

Performance troubleshooter

Another handy tool in Windows is “Troubleshooting”. Essentially what it does is it analyzes and shows you the list of programs that is hampering the performance of your computer.

ReadyBoost is a feature that can be activated with the external drive such as USB flash drive or flash memory cards. When a USB flash drive or flash memory card is inserted, a pop up “AutoPlay” dialog will show up that gives you the option of choosing ReadyBoost.

Restart regularly

You should always restart your computer often. We recommend that you should restart your pc atleast once in a month.
Restarting a computer helps clean the memory of it. It also helps shut down any processes or services that have been causing trouble.

Spyware and viruses
Viruses are programs that make unwanted modification to your system files without your consent and knowledge. These programs makes your system unstable and prone to crashes. You may see unwanted pop ups, messages, etc.
Spyware are programs that installed without your knowledge and consent. These programs are intended to monitor your activities and can be used to exploit for other purposes, too.
You should scan your pc regularly and keep the antivirus and spyware up to date.
